AVCHD PH 50Hz: 1080/50i, 1080/25p, 720/25p, 720/50p (and 1080/50p in VFR mode).
AVCHD PH 59.94Hz: 1080/60i, 1080/30p, 1080/24p, 720/60p (and 1080/60p in VFR mode).
The camera records to onboard SD cards in an H.264 codec at about 24mbps. The compression is matched exactly to the output of the camera. External Recording H.264 to the Panasonic P2 gear at 100mbps or 180mbps on the XDR Flash does increase the quality, but compromises ease of use. The most useful recording device is the Aja Kai-pro, as this can record in Apple Prores 422 HQ at about 220 mbps. However, the onboard recording is incredibly good quality, and, provided the operator doesn’t over expose, is capable of delivering incredible results. When shooting at 50 or 60 1080p using the variable frame rate mode (VFR), the camera ups the data rate to 48mbps and 58mbps accordingly
The onboard recording is easily transferred through FCP log and transfer in the normal way (as are P2 gear recordings), including material shot in VFR. There is no audio recording in VFR mode.
